Only a couple more nights to sleep, and then I will be off to EclipseCon 2012 in Resten, VA.
I'm pretty excited about going: A new venue, a new town (I have never been in the Washington area before) and quite a number of interesting talks. And a whole bunch of Europeans will be going to be there again, not to mention the special meetings that we were able to organize.
One we haven't talked much about yet: I'd like to invite you Europeans to have a beer with me on the 29th in the evening. I'm not sure about the location yet, so please add yourself to this Doodle poll. That would help me to find a proper place :-)
Don't forget that -as every year- we will check passports at the entrance to see if you qualify.
One more thing: If you can't wait to get an Eclipse beer, join us at the Eclipse Stammtisch Kaiserslautern. There's only a few seats left!

CeBIT (Reloaded)
Just packing for CeBIT 2012, where you will find me for the next 6 days! But it won't just be the Eclipse Foundation, the Foundation will be joined by Actuate, BREDEX, EclipseSource, itemis, MicroSoft and TaskTop (see full press release).
We look forward to our brand-new booth that has been designed to give the visitor a good look at all the exhibitors. We will have really nice showcases, and we will have interesting offerings to show!
And if you are interested in learning more about the Eclipse Foundation, come on. I'm more than happy to talk to you about our latest initiatives like the Automotive Industry Working Group, the aerospace lead initiative PolarSys or our Long Term Support IWG.

Automotive Industry Working Group News
I wanted to take the opportunity and inform you about things going on in the Eclipse Auto-IWG. We had a face-2-face meeting in Stuttgart at ETAS GmbH. We have made a lot of progress with the work packages as you can see from the meeting minutes and the updates made on the wiki.
In addition, we were listing to presentations from Stefan Voget (Continental) about EATOP, a potential Eclipse project implementing EAST-ADL, a presentation from Bosch India on an OSEE for Automotive package that they have created and finally from Oscar Slotosch from Validas in Germany on tool qualification. All the presentations are already available or will be made available at http://wiki.eclipse.org/Auto_IWG#Documents.
I'm also very pleased to welcome Validas AG from Munich, Germany and The Virtual Vehicle Competence Center from Graz, Austria as new Solution Members to the Eclipse Foundation. They have expressed strong interest in participating in the AutoIWG, and we are very happy to have their industry know-how and experience on board.
Is Eclipse important to Automotive and is Automotive important in Eclipse? Looking at the program of the upcoming EclipseCon in Reston, Virginia, I note that Ford's "What's next guy, Mr. Prasad and Peter Semmelhack, founder of Bug Labs will talk in their keynote presentation about the App Development Platform of the future car.
And in the 'normal' program, I can also find quite a number of talks that are of interest to the automotive crowd.
And last but not least, we will have an 'automotive meeting' at EclipseCon. Please add yourself to this Doodle poll if you are interested in participating or presenting.

Welcome Open Source Software Learning Centre e.V. to the Eclipse Foundation
I'm very pleased to welcome FOSSLC Germany e.V. to the Eclipse Foundation as an associate member.
As FOSSLC describes itself:
FOSSLC e.V. is a non-profit organization with the purpose of spreading knowledge and awareness of open source and open standards by organizing and hosting free-of-charge workshops and talks to give everybody the chance to engage with these technologies.
Since 2008, FOSSLC e.V. is hosting events on topics such as LInux, Java, Python, TeX, SSL/PGP and many more with the help from reputable speakers from universities and open source related businesses.
The Eclipse Foundation is very grateful to FOSSLC e.V. for having recorded the 2011 edition of EclipseCon Europe for us. Having the recordings of pretty much every talk available at the FOSSLC site is a great thing for the community!

Two more days
All is set and organized, I was told by the fabulous Anne Jacko yesterday evening.
The registration numbers numbers look all right, I was told by Anne as well.
The EclipseCon band - well I called and all members are healthy, the current flu epidemic that has hit my town didn't get to them.
Wireless seems to be better than ever, Anne tells me.
So it looks like everything is in good order.
But still, I'm sort of nervous.

Welcome the University of Milano Bicocca to the Eclipse Foundation
I would like to welcome our new associate member University of Milano Bicocca.
The department of computer science has for many years contributed interesting research based on Eclipse technology, we have met at several occasions.
In 2011, the DISC has also been the host of the Academic Eclipse Day Italy where I had the honor to be invited as a speaker.
I appreciate all the work that the universities throughout Italy do in the Eclipse eco system and I hope to see more of their research become available in products and open source projects.

October Travel
Arrived in Stuttgart just now for the Amalthea meeting. If you care about embedded multicore applications and model driven development in Automotive, you better check this project.
Tomorrow a trip to Zurich (Switzerland) for the first Eclipse Stammtisch there - can you believe it took 10 years to get to this initial event? Thanks to the folks from Scout project to get this going.
On Sunday I fly to Bilbao, Spain for the second edition of the Eclipse Embedded Day Spain. Last year I only participated through Skype, so this year I look forward to attend in person (supposedly it is warmer than in Zwingenberg too).
And so it goes on in October - no remorse:
On October 21st I have the pleasure to speak at NuxeoWorld in Paris, the week after I will attend the ITEA2 / Artemis Co-Summit in Helsinki. And just when I get back I'll head together with my colleague Wayne Beaton to Leuven in Belgium for a special Eclipse event the Belgium Java user group has organized.
Am I on the road or what?
