Just hopping from demo camp to demo camp. Last week it was Ilmenau and Nuremberg, this week it's Kassel and Hamburg (where I am right now).
Nuremberg and Ilmenau are new. So it was to be expected that they were not too crowded. True for Ilmenau, but the planners in Nuremberg didn't have enough chairs.
As every year, I'm learning a lot. Not just about Eclipse technology. But also about the fact that people come to the demo camps despite of the competing European Soccer championship. I had expected that people actually would drop out and watch soccer rather than listening to XText or Code Recommender talks.
Now to be fair: The demo camp here in Hamburg was originally planned for yesterday. Only when the planners found out that the game Germany - Netherlands was scheduled for the same evening, they wisely changed to today. And I'm really grateful. I would have had a bad conflict!
So now everybody won: The demo camp in the nice Speicherstadt location has about 80 participants. I could watch the Germans win 2:1 yesterday. The only people who actually lost was the Dutch team. Oh well ...

CeBIT (Reloaded)
Just packing for CeBIT 2012, where you will find me for the next 6 days! But it won't just be the Eclipse Foundation, the Foundation will be joined by Actuate, BREDEX, EclipseSource, itemis, MicroSoft and TaskTop (see full press release).
We look forward to our brand-new booth that has been designed to give the visitor a good look at all the exhibitors. We will have really nice showcases, and we will have interesting offerings to show!
And if you are interested in learning more about the Eclipse Foundation, come on. I'm more than happy to talk to you about our latest initiatives like the Automotive Industry Working Group, the aerospace lead initiative PolarSys or our Long Term Support IWG.

Welcome Open Source Software Learning Centre e.V. to the Eclipse Foundation
I'm very pleased to welcome FOSSLC Germany e.V. to the Eclipse Foundation as an associate member.
As FOSSLC describes itself:
FOSSLC e.V. is a non-profit organization with the purpose of spreading knowledge and awareness of open source and open standards by organizing and hosting free-of-charge workshops and talks to give everybody the chance to engage with these technologies.
Since 2008, FOSSLC e.V. is hosting events on topics such as LInux, Java, Python, TeX, SSL/PGP and many more with the help from reputable speakers from universities and open source related businesses.
The Eclipse Foundation is very grateful to FOSSLC e.V. for having recorded the 2011 edition of EclipseCon Europe for us. Having the recordings of pretty much every talk available at the FOSSLC site is a great thing for the community!
I look forward to working with FOSSLC e.V. in the future, visiting Ilmenau for mutual events and having them attend and record many more Eclipse related session!

Two more days
All is set and organized, I was told by the fabulous Anne Jacko yesterday evening.
The registration numbers numbers look all right, I was told by Anne as well.
The EclipseCon band - well I called and all members are healthy, the current flu epidemic that has hit my town didn't get to them.
Wireless seems to be better than ever, Anne tells me.
So it looks like everything is in good order.
But still, I'm sort of nervous.

Welcome the University of Milano Bicocca to the Eclipse Foundation
I would like to welcome our new associate member University of Milano Bicocca.
The department of computer science has for many years contributed interesting research based on Eclipse technology, we have met at several occasions.
In 2011, the DISC has also been the host of the Academic Eclipse Day Italy where I had the honor to be invited as a speaker.
I appreciate all the work that the universities throughout Italy do in the Eclipse eco system and I hope to see more of their research become available in products and open source projects.

September Starting
Just sitting in the train and looking at my calendar for the month, which will be pretty busy and exciting! Here just a few highlights to consider for yourself:
On the 7th we start with the Eclipse Testing Day in Neuss, Germany. What I hear is that there are still a few tickets available.
On September 13th the meeting of the Automotive Industry comes up in Frankfurt, Germany. Check out the Auto IWG Wiki for more information!
In the second half of the month it gets pretty busy as well. In parallel I will attend the 6th Eclipse Day Italy in Milan, Italy (22-23rd) and the 2011 edition of the Open World Forum in Paris, France. Quite a schedule for that week. Too bad, I would have loved to stay a little longer in both cities!
Meanwhile we continue to work on EclipseCon Europe 2011. As you might have seen, we have all the keynote speakers lined up and are just finishing the program, which should be online in a week or two. One thing I can already tell you: It looks like we will have a pretty exciting 10th anniversary event for the Eclipse eco system.

Announcing Eclipse Testing Day 2011
We're pleased to announce that the agenda for the second Eclipse Testing Day has been published, and that registration is now open!
When is the Testing Day?
The Eclipse Testing Day is a whole-day event on the 7th September 2011 in the Commundo Tagungshotel in Humboldtstraße 2, 41468 Neuss, Germany.
What's in it for me?
This year we have eight talks over the course of the day. Topics range from acceptance testing and usability testing to build processes and test processes (requirements, test case definition…). In short, if you’re looking for a chance to hear from the experts for testing, test processes, and the tools and technology that go hand in hand with them, then you should come along!
Alongside the talks you’ll also have the chance to chat to our sponsors and see what they have to offer in terms of testing and process. Eclipse Embedded Day and Open Forum

Welcome Verit GmbH to the Eclipse Foundation
verit Informationssysteme GmbH has just recently joined the Eclipse Foudation as a Solution Member.
The Kaiserslautern, Germany based company develops software for Java and Eclipse and is renown as an expert for quality assurance and testing of software systems.
In addition, verit GmbH offer tools to support test automation and test management: While PETA is testing on the protocol-level, KLAROS can be used for test data acquisition and analysis.
In addition, verit engineers have just become an active contributor to TPTP.

Welcome Protos to the Eclipse Foundation
The Protos Software GmbH has just recently joined the Eclipse Foundation as a Solution Member
The Munich, Germany based Protos Software GmbH is a service company that specialized in the development of model-driven, domain-specific tools and applications for Embedded Systems.
We develop tools and applications for our customers and support them with training, consulting and coaching. Most of our projects are based on Eclipse Open Source Tools.
We have been creating tools and applications for the domains of automation, automotive, telecommunication and medical since 1996.
Protos recently started the eTrice Project which is in the Incubation Phase at the moment. The eTrice project will strive to deliver state of the art tooling and target middleware for the model driven development of industry quality event driven real-time software. Emphasis will be laid on the usablity of tooling, produced code and middleware in real industry projects. The initial contribution will be made most likely in November.

For many years has the university's department of Computer, Communication and Systems Science (DIST) in Genova invested in Eclipse related technology and has helped to create a vivid research community in Italy.
Main research interests of the department with its 75 researchers and about 100 PhD students include the e-learning, robotics and automation, artificial intelligence and peer-to-peer technologies.
In many areas of this work the Eclipse platform serves as educational tool as well as supporting the researchers.

Welcome SBB / CFF / FFS to the Eclipse Foundation
The Swiss Railway SBB has just recently joined the Eclipse Foundation as an Associate Member.
Transporting 327.5 million passengers and 50 million net tons of freight every year the company is by far the biggest travel and transport company in Switzerland.
Having experienced their great services for the time I was living in Switzerland I appreciate very much that this very service oriented organization has become a large consumer of the Eclipse platform and Eclipse related services.
We have seen presentations of their applications on various occasions such as the Eclipse Summit, and we look forward to an even closer relationship with SBB through the newly signed membership.

Welcome Sigasi To The Eclipse Foundation
Sigasi has just recently joined the Eclipse Foundation as a Solution Member.
The young start-up is based in Ghent, Belgium. The company is focusing it's efforts around Sigasi HDT, a development tool for VHDL designers (in case you don't know VHDL, consult Wikipedia here). The tool is listed on Eclipse Marketplace in case you want to download it.
As Hendrik Eeckhaut, the CTO of Sigasi, states: We have long been convinced that a solid framework like Eclipse helps everybody. The application developer can reuse a big portion of the Eclipse framework (standing on the shoulders of giants, so to speak). The end user has a single familiar user interface and can benefit from over a thousand Eclipse-based solutions.

The young start-up is based in Ghent, Belgium. The company is focusing it's efforts around Sigasi HDT, a development tool for VHDL designers (in case you don't know VHDL, consult Wikipedia here). The tool is listed on Eclipse Marketplace in case you want to download it.
As Hendrik Eeckhaut, the CTO of Sigasi, states: We have long been convinced that a solid framework like Eclipse helps everybody. The application developer can reuse a big portion of the Eclipse framework (standing on the shoulders of giants, so to speak). The end user has a single familiar user interface and can benefit from over a thousand Eclipse-based solutions.
